THE DARK TOWER Status Update from Producer Brian Grazer

Last month Universal Pictures made the stupid decision to not move forward with the Brain Grazer produced, Ron Howard directed film and TV adaptation of Stephen King's The Dark Tower. After that happened we knew the project would be shipped around to other studios, but we weren't sure what kind of timeline the creative team was looking at. Gazer recently gave a little update on the adaptation saying that it won't happen until next year and that Howard is “trying to get outside financing to make it, and distribute it through a major [studio].”

He goes on to say that the TV spin-off for the adaptation is still in the plan, but it will have to be done through another network other than NBC, which even includes Netflix as an option, which is pretty cool. As for Javier Bardem, he's still attached to star as the gunslinger Roland Deschain.

Grazer concludes the short interview saying that “Ron is now going to be working on the Formula One racing movie Rush about Niki Lauda, so the soonest we could do it would be June next year.” So if the stars finally align for this Dark Tower adaptation there's a possibility that will will go into production of June of next year.

I don't care how long it takes, as long as it gets made, and it gets made right. I'm extremely excited for the adaptation plan that Gazer and Howard have mapped out for this book series. What do you all think?
