Shawn Levy to Direct FRANKENSTEIN for FOX?
It looks like Shawn Levy (Night at the Museum) is going to leave the James Cameron produced film Fantastic Voyage, because according to Deadline the director is looking to take on another film project at Fox... Frankenstein.
Fox wants to move on the new Frankenstein project fast, and since nothing is really moving forward with Fantastic Voyage the studio wants to but him on this film, which is based on the classic Mary Shelly character, from a script written by Max Landis. They want to get their Frankenstein film in production before the seven other Frankenstein film projects do.
I'm not the biggest fan of Levy or his directing style. However, I am looking forward to his Reel Steal film. I don't think he has the right eye or imagination for something like Frankenstein though, unless he plans on giving it a cartoonish type feel, because those are the kinds of films he makes.
The studio won't say how their Frankenstein movie is going to play out, but it's Frankenstein, we all know the story no matter how it's told. Some of the other Frankenstein projects in the works right now are Guillermo del Toro's take on the story, which may never happen, but it's the one I want to see. The other ones include Timur Bekmambetov's prequel, The Casebook of Victor Frankenstein, based on the Peter Ackroyd novel. Dean Koontz has a modern day take on the story will be adapted called Frankenstein: Prodigal Son.Danny Boyle directed a stage play based on Frankenstein. Lakeshore is developing an film adaptation of the comic book I, Frankenstein and Tim Burton will direct a feature film version of his short film, Frankenweenie, which looks pretty awesome.
What are your thought's on Levy possibly taking on Frankenstein?
