Dan Aykroyd says GHOSTBUSTERS 3 will Happen with or without Bill Murray

We've been hearing about a third Ghostbusters movie for years! Of course it seems like nothing has been moving forward. We've heard over the years that the main hold up on the project is Billy Murray, but maybe that won't matter anymore. In a recent interview on Dennis Miller Radio with Ghostbusters own Dan Aykroyd he reveals that the movie will move forward with or without him, and that they plan to start shooting in spring of 2012.

Yes, we will be doing the movie and hopefully with Mr. Murray. That is our hope. We have an excellent script. What we have to remember is that 'Ghostbusters' is bigger than any one component, although Billy was absolutely the lead and contributive to it in a massive way, as was the director and Harold [Ramis], myself and Sigourney [Weaver]. The concept is much larger than any individual role and the promise of 'Ghostbusters 3' is that we get to hand the equipment and the franchise down to new blood.

So he thinks the script and story are good enough to move forward on without Peter Venkman? Damn. If Murray isn't going to be in the film I don't want to see it get made. Venkman is one of my favorite movie characters, and I just can't see a Ghostbusters film without him. Aykroyd went on to confirm some of the story details that we've been hearing about the film. He also hinted at how Ray and Egon are doing these days.

My character, Ray, is now blind in one eye and can't drive the cadillac. He's got a bad knee and can't carry the packs... Egon is too large to get into the harness. We need young blood and that's the promise. We're gonna hand it to a new generation.

The actor then throws in a casting suggestion in the film that I can completely get behind. No one has been officially cast yet but he says,

I like this guy Matthew Gray Gubler from the 'Criminal Minds' show. But there's going to be a casting. We're going to see everyone that wants to do it. We're going to need... three guys and a young woman.

I would love to see Gubler cast in this movie. He completely fits the Ghostbusters vibe and he's a fun actor to watch. He also had a co-starring role in the movie (500) Day of Summer which he was also fantastic in. However, I will be pretty upset if Murray ends up not coming back to reprise his role in the film.

What do you all think about what Aykroyd had to say here about Ghostbusters 3?
