Okay so this post may be a little old...in fact Nasa scientist believe that the high amount of Gamma rays they observed in the Draco constellation travelled for at least 3.9 billion years before scientists witnessed for the first time ever, the beginning of a star being torn into obliviticus (new word) by a black hole. There's a neat little animation they provided that looks far cooler than what scientists actually saw...but that's 98% of science for ya (2% accounting for Japanese robotics). So peep the video below...which actually looks like the way Robot Unicorns destroy stars...
