ROMANCING THE STONE to get TV Adaptation

TV by Joey Paur

Believe it or not Robert Zemeckis' 1984 film Romancing the Stone was a favorite movie of mine growing up. The movie starred Michael Douglas and Kathleen Turner, and I just loved the characters and the adventure of it all. Now according to Deadline, 20th Century Fox TV and director Shawn Levy are looking to adapt the movie into a TV series. Mark Friedman (The Forgotten) has been brought on to write the script for the series , and Levy will direct depending on his availability.

The TV series will follow "a successful but unfulfilled woman who teams with a risk-taking adventurer to take on weekly missions while on a larger quest to find her missing brother." Which is basically the same premise as the original movie, only in the movie Turner was a romance writer, who was looking for her kidnapped sister.

I'm actually looking forward to seeing how this series comes together. I'm not the biggest fan of Shawn Levy's film work, but I think TV would actually be a better fit for him and his directing style. This could be a good project for him.

What are your thoughts on Romancing the Stone getting a TV adaptation?
