First Look at Johnny Depp as a Vampire in DARK SHADOWS - Set Photos

Here's our very first look at what Johnny Depp will looks like as the vampire Barnabas Collins in Tim Burton's Dark Shadows film adaptation. My first thought was... "what the hell is going on?" I don't know why I'm surprised anymore, I just wasn't expecting to see Depp back in white make-up even though the actor has sported white make-up like this in every other Tim Burton film he's stared in. For some reason I just thought it might be different this time around, but never again!

Depp looks like a mix of all the characters he's played for Burton over the years with a dash of Michael Jackson. And what's with the purple eye make-up? They are walking out in the sunlight, and Barnabas is a vampire, so maybe the white make-up is ultra-strength Vampire sunscreen that protects him from going up in flames from the sun? I don't know, I'm just traying to make sense of it.

What do you think?

Here's a short synopsis of the film:

Barnabas (Depp) is rich, powerful and an inveterate playboy until he makes the grave mistake of breaking the heart of Angelique Bouchard(Eva Green). A witch, in every sense of the word, Angelique turns him into a vampire and then buries him alive. More info about "Dark Shadows" after the jump.

Two centuries later, Barnabas is inadvertently freed from his tomb and emerges into the very changed world of 1972. He returns toCollinwood Manor to find that his once-grand estate has fallen into ruin. The dysfunctional remnants of the Collins family have fared little better, each harboring their own dark secrets. Matriarch Elizabeth Collins Stoddard (Michelle Pfeiffer) has called upon live-in psychiatrist, Dr. Julia Hoffman (Helena Bonham Carter), to help with her family troubles.

I am biased because I have enjoyed the tag team of Depp and Burton in all of their adventures; I don't see this as being less entertaining, especially with the cast involved. These pictures show a gothic tone to the building, which I think is key for a period film such as Dark Shadows. What are your thoughts on these pictures and the film as a whole?
