Samuel L. Jackson Confirmed for Tarantino's DJANGO UNCHAINED
It seems like Samuel L. Jackson has been attached to this new Quentin Tarantino film project Django Unchained from the moment it was announced. We pretty much assumed he had been cast in the film this whole time, but it was recently made official.
Jackson is set to play Stephen, a house slave and the right-hand man of a sadistic slavemaster Candie who is being played by (Leonardo DiCaprio). Jamie Foxx, Christoph Waltz, and Kevin Costner also star in the film. The film has been described as a Sergio Leone style Spaghetti Western, but Tarantinio is calling it a Southern, because it takes place in the south.
As previously reported, the story follows Django (Fox), a freed slave, who, under the protection and care of a German bounty hunter (Waltz) becomes a bad-ass bounty hunter himself, and after assisting Waltz in taking down some bad guys for profit, is helped by Waltz in tracking down his slave wife and liberating her from an evil plantation owner (DiCaprio). Costner will play a character named Ace Woody, "the sadistic trainer of the male fighting slaves who entertain the white patrons of Candyland as well as the female slaves who are forced to be prostitutes. The club and ranch are owned by Calvin Candie (DiCaprio) and Ace Woody is the one who pits the "mandingo" fighters against one another, and has little qualms about mistreating and even killing the slaves who don't measure up." This film also deals with racism and is handled in a way unlike anything we've ever seen in a film before.
According to someone that read the script, "it’s a 100 percent pure popcorn and revenge flick, it is pure genius in the way it takes on the evil slave owning south. Think of what he did with the Nazis in Inglorious and you’ll get a sense of what he’s doing with slave owners and slave overseers in this one."
The film is set to be released on December 25th 2012. There's no doubt in my mind that this movie is going to be another great film from Tarantino.
