Casey Affleck to play angel Gabriel in PARADISE LOST?

Casey Affleck may soon be sporting som angel wings. Variety is reporting that Affleck is in talks to play the role of the angel Gabriel in Paradise Lost for Legendary Pictures. The big-budget adaptation of John Milton's 17th Century poem is being directed by Alex Proyas (The Crow). Bradley Cooper and Ben Walker are playing warring archangels Lucifer and Michael, while Djimon Hounsou is playing Abdiel, the angel of death. Gabriel is a pretty bad-ass angel with six wings, who was created by God to serve as a messenger.

Stuart Hazeldine penned the primary draft of the screenplay, originally written by Byron Willinger and Philip de Blasi. A polish was done by Lawrence Kasdan. The final draft was done by Ryan Condal, with a story that follows "the epic war in heaven between archangels Michael and Lucifer, including the latter's role in Adam and Eve's fall from grace."

The film is being developed as an action film that willl include aerial battle sequences by Legendary's Thomas Tull and Jon Jashni producing along with Vincent Newman. Warner Bros. is set to release the film under their agreement with Legendary.

Affleck wore a number of different hats - writing, directing, producing and co-starring as himself in the Joaquin Phoenix pic I'm Still Here. He will next be seen in Brett Ratner's Tower Heist and lends his voice to the animated film ParaNorman. I think Affleck is an interesting choice for the film, seeing as he has not starred in an action film. I think he will be great though. What are your thoughts?
