Patty Jenkins Comments on Directing THOR 2

It was announced a few days ago that Monster director Patty Jenkins might end up being Marvel's choice to take on the sequel to Kenneth Branagh's Thor. It's hard for me to get behind this odd decision because she has no experience directing a movie of this epicness, so it's the most interesting and out-of-the-box choice Marvel has made so far. At least they didn't choose Brett Ratner or McG.

NYMAG recently caught up with the director and asked her a few questions in which she confirmed a deal is being worked out and she's prepping for her biggest directing adventure yet. Here's what they reported...

So when we ran into Jenkins at the premiere of Five at Skylight Soho on Monday, we asked her if Thor 2 was really next on her slate. “I can’t say, but yes,” she laughed. “I can’t say anything definitive, but it’s exciting to be in talks with them about it.” Jenkins understands she’s an unusual choice for the project — she hasn’t worked with big special effects before. “I think Marvel is really ballsy to think outside the box,” she said. “And I think everyone they’ve talked to and hired has been interesting.” While the deal is still being sorted out, she's prepping for the gig, surreptitiously. When asked what she was reading, comics- and graphic-novel-wise, she said, “Right now, I’m reading all of … I can’t say.”

Even she thinks that she's an odd choice to take on the project. But she's prepping for it, and who knows, maybe she'll do an incredible job and blow us all away. Regardless of who directs the film I'm excited to see this story continue on the big screen. Marvel president  Kevin Feige previously gave some little details on the movie saying that "Thor literally to other worlds. Primarily be the journey of that character, of he and Jane Foster, and how the new dynamic with his father is working out, as well as what are the broader stakes for The Nine Worlds.”

What are your thought's on Patty Jenkins taking on this film project, because it looks like it's going to happen.
