Steven Spielberg may direct Moses epic for Warner Bros.

Steven Spielberg could direct epic movie about the life of Moses. Deadline reports that Warner Bros is trying to get the director to helm Gods and Kings. No formal meetings have taken place, but Spielberg has read the script by Michael Green and Stuart Hazeldine. It is very hard to get Spielberg to sign a deal to direct a film because he's always busy, and his deal may require that DreamWorks share the picture with Warner Bros.

Gods and Kings "covers the life of Moses from birth to death. In between, there is his awakening to the plight of the Hebrew slaves that led Moses’ struggle against the Pharaoh for their freedom out of Egypt; the Ten Plagues; the Burning Bush; the daring escape across the Red Sea; receiving the Ten Commandments, and delivery to Israel." It is being based on a script treatment by Matti Leshem, the Book of Exodus and other stories from the Old Testament. Dan Lin and Leshem are producing the film.

The film is not being planned as a remake of  Cecile B. Demille's The Ten Commandments, which was one of the most profitable films of its time, grossing $65 million in the 1950s (close to $1 billion after inflation).

I think that Spielberg would be a great choice to direct this film. He has the ability to direct epic films like this is planned, and seems to be a history buff. What are your thoughts?
