THE AVENGERS Grace the Cover of EW

Marvel is giving us are first official look at The Avengers assembled together on the cover of Entertainment Weekly. It's not the best magazine cover design, just a quickly slapped together bad photoshop job, but it should be enough to get fans excited. Of course there will be more images for the film inside that magazine, and we'll get those up as soon as they become available.

The cover includes Robert Downey Jr. as Iron Man, Chris Hemsworth as Thor, and Chris Evans as Captain America, Mark Ruffalo as The Incredible Hulk, Jeremy Renner as Hawkeye and Scarlett Johansson as Black Widow. Renner added that “Just because they’re super heroes doesn’t mean they’re super friends.”

EW reports that, "It was a different story with the cast and crew: If anything, they got along too well. Far from home on the Albuquerque set, they had little to do except hang out together, maybe hit a Motley Cruë concert, or go dancing with writer-director Joss Whedon, who says he knew “every dance club in Albuquerque.” Whedon was actually counting on a little bit of friction, since there’s so much in the actual story. “I was like, well, if they hate each other, I guess we can use that,” he shrugs. “But they don’t.”

And Downey Jr. went on to say about pushing for heat-of-the-moment script changes, "I dominated like a rabid, horny gorilla”. The magazine goes on to say that, "he still nudged Whedon to go a little farther in some scenes." Whedon adds, “There is a weird element of: they handed me one of the biggest movies of all time, and I’m making it up as I go.” Yikes! That's a little scarey, but I stil trust Whedon will give us the best Avengers movie possible.

The movie is set to be released on May 4th 2012. What are your thoughts?
