Joe Wright officially directing ANNA KARENINA with Keira Knightley

Joe Wright is officially confirmed to direct Anna Karenina with Keira Knightley set to take the lead in the story of a woman making her way in early-19th-century Russian high society. Deadline reports that the Working Title films adaptation of Leo Tolstoy’s novel was penned by Tom Stoppard. Focus Features is taking over distribution for the U.S. and Universal Pictures International is handling worldwide set for release in 2012. The project is being produced by Working Title co-chairs Tim Bevan and Eric Fellner along with Paul Webster.

The cast includes Knightley as Anna, Jude Law as her husband Aleksei Karenin, and Aaron Johnson (Nowhere Boy) will play Count Vronsky. The supporting cast also includes Kelly Macdonald, Matthew Macfadyen, Domhnall Gleeson, Alicia Vikander, Emily Watson, Olivia Williams and Ruth Wilson.
