Olga Kurylenko and Andrea Riseborough Join Tom Cruise For Kosinski's Sci-Fi Film

Universal has found its leading ladies to star opposite Tom Cruise in an untitled sci-fi film from Joseph Kosinski (Tron: Legacy). Variety reports that Olga Kurylenko and Andrea Riseborough will be in the movie. They beat out just about every high-profile young actress for the roles. Jessica Chastain was attached to star but had to drop out to join Kathryn Bigelow's untitled Osama Bin Laden film.

The first drafts of the scripts were penned by William Monahan and Karl Gajdusek. Michael Arndt is hard at work writing the latest revision. The futuristic tale follows "a soldier stationed on Earth, the surface of which has been destroyed by aliens. When he discovers a mysterious woman in a crash-landed pod, it sets off a chain of events that cause him to question everything he knows." Peter Chernin and Dylan Clark are producing via Chernin Entertainment, along with Barry Levine of Radical Publishing and Kosinski. Jesse Berger and Dave Morrison are serving as executive producers, with production planned to begin in the first quarter of 2012.

Riseborough gained a lot of attention after starring in Madonna's W.E. This project marks her American film debut. Her most recent role is in James Marsh's Shadow Dancer, which debuts at Sundance next week. Kurylenko was a Bond girl in Quantum of Solace. She will soon be seen on Starz's upcoming series Magic City and just finished shooting Terrence Malick's untitled film starring Ben Affleck.

After seeing Cruise in Mission: Impossible Ghost Protocol, I am looking forward to seeing him in just about anything. Minority Report, also a sci-fi film, is one of my past faves. What are your thoughts on this news?
