Tom Hanks Developing Sci-Fi Animated Web-Series ELECTRIC CITY

Tom Hanks has done projects for the big screen and TV and is now jumping into to develop a new sci-fi web-series online. Hanks is teaming up with Yahoo! to bring us a futuristic animated series called Electric City that is set to appear on Yahoo! later this spring.

The 90-minute series is being produced by Hanks' Playtone production company, and it will be Yahoo's first original scripted series. According to Yahoo vice president and head of video, Erin McPherson...

Tom actually created this. He wrote and he stars in the lead voice. It is animated and it has a science fiction bent and in that way, like all great science fiction, it definitely plays on what is the best type of society to live in and themes around energy usage, conservation and sustainability.

Hanks will officially announce the animated project at CES McPherson went on to explain that,

it is the perfect environment to talk about the marriage of technology and content. We wanted to start off 2012 with a very strong statement about our commitment to premium content and bringing the world's best storytellers to life and utilizing our platform and our technology to do that.

I'm excited to see how this web-series turns out and what the story is going to entail. Hanks is also working on developing a live-action sci-fi film based on the vintage action figure Major Matt Mason. I think Hanks is one of Hollywood's most talented individuals, and I'm the kind of movie geek that gets excited about anything that he does. We'll get you more information on the series as soon as it becomes available. What are your thoughts on this project?
