Comic-Con Will Stay in San Diego Through 2016!

It was announced to today by San Diego Mayor Jerry Sanders that Comic-Con International has extended their stay in San Diego through 2016! Comic-Con was previously contractually committed to remain at the San Diego Convention Center until 2015.

There was a point where Comic-Con was considering moving the convention to Las Vegas, Los Angeles or Anaheim, but thanks to a $520 million expansion of the convention center Comic-Con decided to stick around! I can't imagine Comic-Con being anywhere else. I love going to San Diego for the convention!

The city still has yet to start developing the convention center upgrade, but Comic-Con spokesman David Glanzer had this to say in a statement,

We really didn't take the expansion into consideration in making our decision. If by next year and the following year, we have such an influx of people that the added space we use doesn't work and there's no expansion, then it could be an issue.

The epic gathering of 130,000 geeks, sells out extremely fast these days and has proven to be a huge economic engine for the city. It brings in roughly $68 million alone in spending for hotels, dining, transportation and other related items.

Comic-Con 2013 is scheduled to run from July 18 to 21 and I already can't wait to see what's in store for us! I hope the convention never leaves San Diego.
