Lionsgate Developing WHEN FIRST WE WERE GODS

Movie Lionsgate by Joey Paur

Lionsgate has hired Aron Eli Coleite (Drew Barrymore's The End) to write a big screen adaptation of the sci-fi short story When First We Were Gods by Rick Yancey. The studio has also brought in music video and commercial director Daniel Askill to develop it. He's worked on commercials for Cadillac, Xbox and Sony.

According to Deadline, in the story, "humanity has achieved immortality, but it is only available to an extraordinarily wealthy elite. While it is very common for people in the elite to marry and divorce, a man conspires to murder his immortal wife so that his mortal mistress can take her place — thus her immortality. Along the way comes the realization that mortality may well render the experience of love impossible."

Sounds a little like that Justin Timberlake film In Time. Does the concept behind this movie interest you at all?

Here's a couple of ads that Askill has directed to give you a taste of the director's style.
