STAR TREK INTO DARKNESS - Official Synopsis Released

Paramount Pictures has released the official synopsis for J.J. Abrams' highly anticipated film Star Trek Into Darkness. We finally have a few little details about where we can expect to see the story go in the film! Here it is...

In Summer 2013, pioneering director J.J. Abrams will deliver an explosive action thriller that takes Star Trek Into Darkness.

When the crew of the Enterprise is called back home, they find an unstoppable force of terror from within their own organization has detonated the fleet and everything it stands for, leaving our world in a state of crisis.

With a personal score to settle, Captain Kirk leads a manhunt to a war-zone world to capture a one man weapon of mass destruction.

As our heroes are propelled into an epic chess game of life and death, love will be challenged, friendships will be torn apart, and sacrifices must be made for the only family Kirk has left: his crew.

Sounds like it will be yet another awesome Star Trek film! It also, in a way, hints that the villain in the sequel is Gary Mitchell, as previously revealed by Karl Urban. The phrase, "A personal score to settle" and a "a one man weapon of mass destruction" are a couple little tip offs. In the original series Mitchell is a friend of Captain Kirk, and a Starfleet officer on the U.S.S. Enterprise. He ends up with powerful telekinetic powers, and turns against Kirk and his crew.

The crew of the enterprise will once again embark in an adventure into the unknown on On May 17th, 2013. The movie stars Chris Pine, Zachary Quinto, Zoe Saldana, Anton Yelchin, Simon Pegg, John Cho, Benedict Cumberbatch, Peter Weller and Alice Eve.

Don't forget, Paramount will be showing off the first 9 minutes of the film exclusively in IMAX 3D on December 14th in front of Peter Jackson's The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey

Here's a little bit of Star Trek trivia for you to chew on, 26 years ago today Star Trek: The Voyage Home opened in theaters on November 26th, 1986.
