STAR WARS: THE CLONE WARS Probably Heading to Disney XD

While the announcement of Disney's acquisition of Lucasfilm surprised the world earlier this week, there were (and still are) a lot of questions left to be answered. But when it comes to Star Wars: The Clone Wars, things seem pretty cut and dry.

Since Disney now owns the Lucasfilm library, it's safe to assume that THR's guess about the future of the series is right on the money. It makes sense that Disney would move the property from its home at Cartoon Network over to Disney XD, the home of animation like Tron: Uprising, and hope the show's viewers will follow it over. Turner, owned by Time Warner, has a contract with Clone Wars to run only through the rest of this 2012-2013 season, so this move should be happening sooner rather than later. No big deal. But here's something interesting to think about...

A live action Star Wars show has been in talks for a decade, but now that Disney/Marvel is hoping to translate the success of The Avengers into a "S.H.I.E.L.D." spinoff show on ABC, it's not too big of a leap to wonder if the Mouse House will try a similar tactic by finally getting that live action Star Wars series off the ground and onto that same network. I feel like they'd need to do some rebranding, considering ABC isn't exactly the place one automatically thinks of when geek friendly, broad scope television comes into the equation, but we're getting a bit ahead of ourselves, so we'll wait to speculate more on that until something concrete comes up.
