PACIFIC RIM Sequel is Already in Development

Movie Pacific Rim by Joey Paur

Guillermo del Toro's Pacific Rim doesn't even come out until next summer, but Legendary Pictures is so confident in its success that they've hired Travis Beacham to write the script for it. He also wrote the initail story treatment for the first movie. Del Toro will also be working on the script with him, but there's no confirmation on if he'll be coming back to direct it or not. I guess there's going to be another big threat that the giant robots will have to face off against.

It seems like a lot of sequels start being developed before the first film is even released in theaters these days. This normally happens when a film is testing really well with audineces, and studios just want to be locked and loaded and ready to move on it if the first movie is a success.

Hell, I haven't even seen Pacific Rim yet, but I'm already excited that it's going to get a sequel! The footage shown at Comic-Con was pretty mind-blowing. You'll be able to see it for yourself later this month!

In the film, legions of monstrous creatures, known as Kaiju, start rising from the sea and begin a war that would takes millions of lives and consumes humanity’s resources for years on end. To combat the giant Kaiju, a special type of weapon was devised: massive robots, called Jaegers, which are controlled simultaneously by two pilots whose minds are locked in a neural bridge. But even the Jaegers are proving nearly defenseless in the face of the relentless Kaiju. On the verge of defeat, the forces defending mankind have no choice but to turn to two unlikely heroes-a washed up former pilot (Hunnam) and an untested trainee (Kikuchi)-who are teamed to drive a legendary but seemingly obsolete Jaeger from the past. Together, they stand as mankind’s last hope against the mounting apocalypse.

Pacific Rim stars Charlie Hunnam, Rinko Kikuchi, Idris Elba, Ron Perlman and Charlie Day. It will be released 2D and 3D on July 12th, 2013.
