TRON 3 - Disney Moving Forward With New Writer

Movie Tron 3 by Eli Reyes

Earlier this year it was rumored that a sequel to 2010's Tron: Legacy hinged on the performance of Disney XD's Tron: Uprising. It looks like Disney was pleased with the response to the animated prequel series which boasts visuals just as rich as its live-action counterpart. THR reports that Disney is moving forward on the untitled Tron: Legacy sequel and is currently looking to hire Eragon scribe Jesse Wigutow to pen the next draft of the script. Traveler series writer David DiGilio drafted the latest script. Disney must be pleased with Wigutow's work on their forthcoming projects, Peter and the Starcatchers; and Parallel.

I'm sure there wasn't much nail biting going on from director Joseph Kosinski and Legacy screenwriters Edward Kitsis and Adam Horowitz as they've been quietly developing the third installment of Tron while juggling other projects this past year -- with Kosinski shooting Oblivion and Kitsis and Horowitz serving as showrunners on Once Upon A Time. Afterall, even though Tron: Legacy wasn't the game changer Disney hoped it would be, it still took in over $400 million world-wide proving that the franchise has a solid base. I think we all knew a sequel would happen eventually... I'm just glad it didn't take another 28 years.

THR also states that Kosinski will be back to helm the next installment. I'm definitely excited for that, everything fans loved about the last movie came from his visual flare, and everything we didn't like... well, a new writer will hopefully solve that. With what the director has said in previous interviews about where they'd like to take the story next, I'm sure we can also expect the return of Jeff Bridges, Garrett Hedlund, Olivia Wilde and a lot more screen time for Cillian Murphy

I love that there's so much left to explore in this universe. I think there's been a lot more groundwork set up for this next film(s) than we think. As Tron himself, Bruce Boxleitner, has stated, the ending of Tron: Legacy and the viral videos really served as the beginning of the next film. So expect to pick up right where we left off!
