Weird Science: Your Mind Is a Swimming Salmon and the World Is a Hologram

RantVideos by Mick Joest

Michael Talbot and his document The Universe As A Hologram is a "mind fish" to say the least. Taken from the works of physicist David Bohm and neurophysicist Karl Pribram, Talbot talks and provides evidence on how the world operates as a "holographic model." I don't claim to fully understand everything that's being said (as I'm sure most who study string theory would admit), but here's the easiest way to summarize just the intro concept of our "hologram world".

  • It was discovered in the 1980's that subatomic particles can instantaneously communicate regardless of distance between them. While some proclaimed this was a debunking of Einstein's theorizing that nothing is faster than the speed of light, others had different theories.
  • Bohm theorized that the world is actually gigantic splendidly done hologram. This isn't to say nothing is real (in a sense), as he was talking about the mechanics of how holograms work. If you were to cut an elephant hologram into two halves, it would turn in to two smaller perfect images of the original elephant and etc. Just remember that every piece of a hologram is an exact albeit smaller image of the original
  • Bohm rationalizes the particles behavior is simply an illusion to our eyes and what seems like two separate particles are in reality the same fundamental something.
  • The easier way to imagine this... Say you don't know what an aquarium or a television is. You are shown two screens: one pointing directly at the aquarium with two fish inside, the other showing a side view of the same aquarium same two fish. Regardless of your ignorance of both items, you will eventually notice a correlation between the movements of the fish on both parts of the screen. Bohm believes that if subatomic particles operate like a hologram, then they contain the information for all that was and all that will be.
  • This means that our minds and everything in existence are all one. Our mind is the swimming salmon just as much as our buildings are apples.

There's a lot of other crazy physics to be found in the reading as well, such as our brains can hold six times the amount of information held in an Encyclopedia Britannica, objects exist only in your mind, and so on.

You can read the full document here, or you can watch these videos below and further the brainmelting.
