STAR WARS: THE PHANTOM MENACE Crosses $1 Billion Mark

Movie Star Wars by

Star Wars: Episode I - The Phantom Menace has joined the $1 Billion club. THR reports that 20th Century Fox's 3D rerelease has pushed George Lucas' film over the edge. It will soon overtake The Dark Knight as the No. 10 grosser of all time.

Phantom Menace has brought in $73.4 million since its worldwide release two weeks ago. This has brought it to $1,000.4 billion through Wednesday. It only needs to make $1.5 million to match and then overtake The Dark Knight ($1,001.9 million) to become the 10th-highest-grossing film of all time (not accounting for inflation). With $35.8 million domestically and $37.6 million internationally, it is only the 11th film to earn $1 billion or more globally.

I actually think I want to see this in 3D, if only for the pod race and the fight scenes. I made the mistake of seeing Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance in 3D yesterday when I should have seen Phantom Menace. Have you seen it in 3D yet?
