THE RAID Sequel - Brief Story Details - Film already Picked up by Sony

The Raid is one of the most insanely awesome action movies I've ever seen, and it's a franchise that's begging for a sequel. The sequel has been in development, and Sony Pictures Worldwide Acquisitions has already pre-bought the U.S., Latin American, and Spanish rights to the Indonesian action sequel.

According to Deadline production for the movie will start at the end of 2012 in Jakarta, and The Raid star Iko Uwais will be back to reprise his role as the ultimate badass. Director Gareth Evans is set to return as well as produce it through his PT Merantau Films.

The new film will have a much larger budget to play with, and although there aren't a lot of story details, our own Ben P had an opportunity to interview the director at Sundance. He revealed that the story will move from the apartment complex and into the city streets. The story will be told on a much larger scale, much like the Batman video game Arkham Asylum was upgraded to Arkham City for the sequel. The director is going to take the fight into the streets, and there's no doubt that it will be gloriously amazing.

Here's what he had to say during our interview,

The idea is to take it out of that building. We've already done something self contained, we want to do something now whereby the boss of that building and and the building itself everything that was terrifying and scary about that in the first film is considered small fry when it comes to the the second film. So, we go to a much bigger underworld organization, and it should be great.

So what do you think of that? It's basically going to get even more badass. If you haven't seen The Raid yet, I can't wait for you to finally be able to, because there's no doubt that you're going to love it!
