TRON 3 Update from Bruce Boxleitner
I really enjoyed Joseph Kosinski's Tron: Legacy, and I'm very much looking forward to seeing that story continue with Tron 3. Last year, it was reported that Kosinski was working on developing the script with the original Tron: Legacy writers Edward Kitsis and Adam Horowitz. Kosinski is currently hard at work making his film Oblivion, but I hope thatwhen he's done with it he will jump back in the world of Tron. There's no confirmation on if he'll direct it or not, but I can't imagine another Tron film happening without him. I don't see why he wouldn't do it either.
Tron himself Bruce Boxleitner said in a previous interview that Tron 3 was a done deal, and then offered an update to I Am Rogue saying that, “The last movie didn’t end,” he told the site. “It actually started the next movie and then went to black.” I think it's just a matter of time right now, and he went on to give a little timeline saying,
It’s in the works. Anything could happen, but all I can say is, it's in its formative stages. [Joseph] Kosinski, who is slated for it, he's shooting another movie now, and then they'll get around to doing that. I think somewhere around 2014, maybe. I’m talking way out of school here, but they can’t shoot me because I’m Tron.
So it seems like we have awhile before anything happens with Tron 3, but at least there is movement and a cool looking animated series called Tron: Uprising to look forward to. For those of you interested in a little more info on where the story will go, here's what Kosinski had to say about it in previous interview:
Once we get a script we’re all really happy with, we’ll take it to the powers that be and see if we can go back to the grid... I think we will pick with where TRON: LEGACY left off with Quorra in the real world and what does that mean and the possibilities it opens up for the next chapter. It’s that relationship between the two of them that’s the next step.
He then went on to talk about Cillian Murphy's character Ed Dillinger, who we always speculated would play a much bigger role in the sequel.
Dillinger was a really important part of the first film and felt like an easy way to continue that storyline and thread to have his son in the new movie. That way you have people ask those questions of what the Dillinger legacy is in the world of TRON. We didn’t want to ignore it completely and it leaves a really nice springboard for some intertwining development for the next film.
