Eddie Izzard To Play Grandpa in NBC's MUNSTERS

TV NBC by

NBC has hired the first cast member for their new take on The Munsters, titled Mockingbird LaneTHR reports that Eddie Izzard (The Riches) has signed on to play Grandpa Munster in the dramatic reinvention of the 1960s show. Al Lewis played the part in the original CBS comedy. He has also signed on to produce the pilot, which is being executive produced by Bryan Singer and Bryan Fuller. The project was initially set up for this season, but was pushed back to the summer.

The new character is described as "a powerful vampire with the quick wit that Lewis initially injected into the character. He's the head of the mysterious family who continues to have Herman under his thumb."

Fuller (Pushing Daisies) is writing the script for Universal Television. The reboot is reportedly "an edgier and slightly darker take exploring origins of Herman and Lily Munster (originally played by Fred Gwynne and Yvonne De Carlo) and how they arrived at the famed 1313 Mockingbird Lane address."

Izzard is perfect casting in my mind. Not only does he look the part, he is is a solid actor. I am not sure I like the name of Mokingbird Lane, but the script sounds cool. Do you think Izzard is a good choice to play Grandpa Munster?
