Jack Bender Drops JACK RYAN Movie!

Paramount's untitled Jack Ryan movie no longer has a director. Variety reports that Jack Bender has had to drop out of the project because of his TV commitments. He is currently executive producing Alcatraz on Fox and is going to produce the Syfy pilot Rewind. The movie was set to start shooting later this summer, and Bender's schedule was prohibiting that. There is no comment from the studio at this time.

Ryan is a character created by Tom Clancy. The project has been a priority at Paramount since Chris Pine came onboard to star, with Lorenzo di Bonaventura producing. There have been a number of script rewrites, with David Koepp doing a polish last spring in hopes of starting production after Pine finishes Star Trek 2.

I liked the idea of Pine being cast in this role, so it will be great to see him star in this film. Harrison Ford was great as Ryan in two prior films. Who would you like to see replace Bender in the director's chair?
