Nokia Files Patent For Vibrating Tattoos

RantTech by Mick Joest

Nokia, master of the brick phone, is looking to modernize into the 21st century with a patent filed for a vibrating tattoo to notify you of phone alerts, according to the BBC. The tattoo, which could go on your belly, finger, or wrist, would send out a vibrating pulse to notify you of messages, low battery, emails, Facebook notifications, moves in DrawFree, etc. While this does indeed sound innovative, I can't really see a pratical use.

First of all we already have a vibrating function for our phone. Why would I want to install a involuntary vibration on my body when it's in my pocket? It'd be like swallowing a pager! I also am curious as to the effects vibration would have when placed in interference with your nervous system. I didn't see the practicallity in it at first glance, but then I had a thought that could justify such an application.

Nokia must be developing a body phone! Why else would you want a vibrating function for something you carry with you all the time? With tablet technology being developed for use on skin as well, and tooth phones being developed in the early 00s, I'm thinking we could see this technology in the next 15 years easily. What would happen if a new phone came out though, would you have to get a new tattoo? Do you think you would like having your phone on you all the time?
