Russell Crowe as Inspector Javert in LES MISERABLES - First Look

We recently showed you a photo of Hugh Jackman from the set of Tom Hooper's big screen musical adaptation of Les Miserables. Today we give you your first look at Russell Crowe as Inspector Javert, and he looks exactly how I imagined he would in the role. I'm seriously curious to see how all of these actors do with the musical numbers.

The film is set against the backdrop of 19th-century France, and tells the powerful story of "broken dreams and unrequited love, passion, sacrifice and redemption—a timeless testament to the survival of the human spirit. Jackman plays ex-prisoner Jean Valjean, hunted for decades by the ruthless policeman Javert (Crowe) after he breaks parole. When Valjean agrees to care for factory worker Fantine’s (Hathaway) young daughter, Cosette, their lives change forever." The film also stars Amanda Seyfried, Anne Hathaway, Eddie Redmayne, Aaron Tveit, and Samantha Barks.

The script for the film was written by William Nicholson, and yes, this will be the musical version. The musicals original producer, Cameron Mackintosh, is producing the film as well. The original score by composer Claude-Michel Schoenberg will be used for the film, and he even has has written a new song for Jackman to sing in the movie.

As a fan of the musical, I'm looking forward to seeing how this turns out. Les Miserables is scheduled to hit theaters on December 14th, 2012. I've also included another image of Jackman from the set of the film.
