Tarsem Singh “Really Angry” about MIRROR MIRROR Trailers!
In an interview with Digital Spy, director Tarsem Singh told the web site that he was “really angry” with the trailers for his upcoming Snow White film Mirror Mirror. Here is what he had to say about it:
I'm really angry at the trailers. I'm a director, I guess, so I always get pissed at them! The movie looks fantastic and the trailers look so hammily off. The posters are okay, they're still neutral, but we're trying to get the film out there so people don't judge it by the trailer.
Asked if he had any control over the cutting of the Mirror Mirror trailers, Tarsem responded:
I backed away from it a bit. I fought that fight on Immortals and I found that I was taking my eye off the movie. I said I'll fight for the movie, but marketing can fight for how you want to sell it.
Tarsem’s film is going head to head with Rupert Sanders’ Snow White and The Huntsman. While the base stories are the same, they are targeted for different demographics. Mirror Mirror is more for the younger crowd, and The Huntsman is grittier, darker, and more suited for older crowds.
This is where I get a little stumped. I can understand wanting to things a certain way, I am all about being a perfectionist when it comes to movie making. However, trailers only do so much. If you haven’t watched the trailer, you won't know what I mean when I say this, but the writing itself seems hammy. Anytime you have Nathan Lane in a film, that is what you are going to get. I am sure that he was hoping that there would be more shots showing the beauty of the film. If that is the case, then I can’t blame him for being a little ticked.
As of right now, I have not seen anything that would make me want to go see this film on opening day, which is April 6th for those of you who are interested. Maybe a new cut of the trailer would push me over the edge. We will have to wait and see. Until then, let us know what you think.
