Vince Vaughn Locks Down Lead in THE ROCKFORD FILES

I've never seen an episode of "The Rockford Files," but perhaps some of our readers have. The show aired on NBC back in the late 70s and starred James Garner as a wrongly convicted felon who serves a prison sentence and becomes a private detective after he gets out. He lazily cruises the Los Angeles coast, living out of a mobile home in Malibu and solving various mysteries along the way.

Deadline reports that Vince Vaughn is set to produce and star in a film adaptation of The Rockford Files for Universal Pictures. Universal owns NBC, so it all fits nicely together. Vaughn seems like a decent fit for the character, who was known in the old show for using his charm and quick witted responses to getting himself out of bad spots instead of using Vic Mackey-esque brute force. (That's a reference to "The Shield," for those who have never seen it.) David Levien and Brian Koppelman are writing the script, and these are the same guys who just penned the story for the Ben Affleck/Justin Timberlake starrer Runner, Runner.

I'm really interested to see what you guys have to say about this one. Vaughn is clearly one of Hollywood's go-to guys when it comes to fast-talking comedies, but for those of you who have seen the show, do you think Vaughn is the right guy to play this part?
