Sam Raimi in Talks To Direct POLTERGEIST Remake

Movie Poltergeist by Joey Paur

A remake of the classic film Poltergeist has been in the works for a few years. At one point the movie was actually given a release date that has since come and gone. The last thing we heard is that screenwriter David Lindsay-Abaire (Rabbit Hole) might be writing the film. Things have been pretty quiet since. But today we've learned that director Sam Raimi is in talks to direct the movie!

Look, Poltergeist is one of those films that I don't want to see get remade. When I first saw that Raimi was in talks to direct it I was both hit with sadness and joy. I know he would make a great Poltergeist movie! I just wish it didn't have to be a remake of the Toby Hooper and Steven Spielberg classic. This is some crazy bittersweet news. But, if the studio is going to move on making the film with or without Raimi attached, I have to say I'd rather see Raimi do it than someone else.

The news came from MGM CEO Roger Birnbaum, as reported by Movies.com. This is far from a done deal and nothing is set in stone, but I think there's a good chance he could end up directing, and if he doesn't direct, maybe he'll stay on as a producer. If it does happen it's not going to happen anytime soon. Raimi is currently directing OZ, The Great and Powerful, and hopefully after that he'll start production of his World of Warcraft movie.

What do you think about the possibility of Raimi directing the Poltergeist remake?
