Roland Emmerich to Direct Action Drama WHITE HOUSE DOWN

Independence Day director Roland Emmerich is going to direct a new action drama for Sony Pictures called White House Down. The studio bought the spec from James Vanderbilt for $3 million dollars. He also wrote the script for the film as well as scripts for Zodiac and The Amazing Spider-Man.

According to Deadline, "The film focuses on a paramilitary takeover of the White House and was compared to Die Hard when it fetched the highest sum for a spec script so far this year for Vanderbilt." I could see a Die Hard style film in The White House. The TV series 24 actually had Jack Bauer trapped in the White House at one point trying to save the day. The question is... will the terrorists in the film be aliens?

White House Down will be Emmerich's next directing gig, and production is set to begin production in the Fall. What do you think about Emmerich taking on this action thriller?
