THE DARK KNIGHT RETURNS Animated Movie - Photos and Cast Announced!

Frank Miller's badass 1986 Batman comic The Dark Knight Returns is getting an animated adaptation, and today we get our first look at it from a series of photos that have been released. Warner Bros. has also announced the impressive voice cast for the film. I hope this turns out being a lot better than the Batman: Year One animated movie they made.

Peter Weller (Robocop) will be taking on the role Batman/Bruce Wayne! Weller is crazy, and he's got a great voice for this character! The cast also includes Ariel Winter (Modern Family) as Robin. David Selby (original Dark Shadows soap opera), Wade Williams (Prison Break) as Harvey Dent/Two-Face; and Michael McKean as Dr. Wolper, the psychiatrist who releases the Joker from the insane asylum.

The movie is being directed by Jay Oliva, who was the storyboard artist for Zack Snyder's upcoming Superman movie Man of Steel, from a script by Bob Goodman.

The Dark Knight Returns is set in a near future where Batman is retired and Gotham City has slid into a dystopian state ruled by a gang of hooligans called The Mutants. The 55-year old Bruce Wayne is forced to don the cape once more, this time partnering with a female Robin to not only stop the Joker but keep the peace when the city falls into chaos after being hit by an electromagnetic pulse.

The story will be split up into two animated features... Batman: The Dark Knight Returns Part 1 and Part 2. Part 1 will be released this fall and Part 2 in early 2013. Check out the images and let us know if you're looking forward to this one! I imagine they'll end up doing a screening for the movie at Comic-Con this year.
