Guillermo del Toro Talks about PACIFIC RIM Battle Scenes
I'm very excited to see what Guillermo del Toro is doing with his robot versus monster battle movie Pacific Rim. This is definitely one of the biggest films the director has taken on. In a recent interview with Total Film, he talks a little bit about the battle scenes that we'll be seeing in the epic film, some of which take place on the ocean floor!
We had a Tokyo scene that we shot here in Toronto. We had several Hong Kong scenes and a few scenes in Australia, through the television. We briefly see the kaiju take over San Francisco. The whole Pacific Rim needs a sense of danger.
We take the battles far and above! Two or three of them happen in places where there have never been a battle between kaiju and robots. From the bottom of the ocean to the atmosphere of the Earth. We have a battle in a storm at sea. Every battle we try to do differently. One is seen from the point of view of a single person. We never cut away from that point of view.
It sounds like were going to get to see some pretty badass visuals in the movie. Monster and robots battling to the death under water sounds awesome! I can't wait to actually start seeing some footage from this movie! We can expect to see it at Comic-Con this year! What do you think about what Del Toro had to say about the movie here?
The script for Pacific Rim was written by Travis Beacham (Clash of the Titans), and it stars Charlie Hunnam (Sons of Anarchy), Idris Elba (Thor), Rinko Kikuchi (The Brothers Bloom), Charlie Day(Horrible Bosses), and Ron Perlman (Hellboy). The ensemble cast also includes Max Martini, Robert Kazinsky, Clifton Collins, Jr., Burn Gorman, Larry Joe Campbell, Diego Klattenhoff, and Brad William Henke.
Here's the official story synopsis:
When legions of monstrous creatures, known as Kaiju, started rising from the sea, a war began that would take millions of lives and consume humanity’s resources for years on end. To combat the giant Kaiju, a special type of weapon was devised: massive robots, called Jaegers, which are controlled simultaneously by two pilots whose minds are locked in a neural bridge. But even the Jaegers are proving nearly defenseless in the face of the relentless Kaiju. On the verge of defeat, the forces defending mankind have no choice but to turn to two unlikely heroes-a washed up former pilot (Charlie Hunnam) and an untested trainee (Rinko Kikuchi)-who are teamed to drive a legendary but seemingly obsolete Jaeger from the past. Together, they stand as mankind’s last hope against the mounting apocalypse.
Warner Bros. will release the movie on July 12th, 2013.
