Stephen King's IT will be Split into 2 Movies by Director Cary Fukunaga

Movie Stephen King by Joey Paur

We've known for awhile that Stephen King's IT was going to get a big screen adaptation. When it was first announced I wasn't sure how they were going to effectively make it into one good film, thankfully that's something we don't have to worry about. Warner Bros. has decided to move forward with the adaptation, and they have decided to split the book into two movies!

The studio is so serious about finally making IT that they hired Cary Fukunaga to co-write and direct the film. His most recent film was last year adaptation of Jane Eyre, which ended up being a pretty solid movie. He'll be working on the script with Chase Palmer, who recently adapted Frank Herbert’s Dune for Paramount Pictures.

Interestingly enough Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter author  Seth Grahame-Smith and his partner David Katzenberg of KatzSmith Production's are producing the film.

This is one of my favorite Stephen King stories, and it will be interesting to see how close they stay to the source material because it gets pretty crazy. The 1990 TV movie, which I love, skipped over a few of those crazy moments. This is a rated R book, but I imagine if their splitting it into two movies it will end up being a PG-13 movie so that everyone can join in on the killer clown fun. Wow, I wonder who'll they'll end up casting as Pennywise, Tim Curry did such an incredible job in the TV movie. If you haven't seen that TV movie yet you should definitely check it out!

I'm excited about this adaptation, and looking forward to seeing what Fukunaga comes up with. I'm also extremely happy it's going to get split up into two movies. What do you think about this plan, and who do you think should play Pennywise the clown?

Here's the description from the book:

A promise made twenty-eight years ago calls seven adults to reunite in Derry, Maine, where as teenagers they battled an evil creature that preyed on the city's children. Unsure that their Losers Club had vanquished the creature all those years ago, the seven had vowed to return to Derry if IT should ever reappear. Now, children are being murdered again and their repressed memories of that summer return as they prepare to do battle with the monster lurking in Derry's sewers once more.
