SDCC '12: Watch the Entire PACIFIC RIM Panel

Audiences in Hall H were already thrown for a loop with the two additional panoramic screens that 'magically' appeared for the WB/Legendary Panels. Everyone was unsure of what screen to look at, and the subwoofers were shaking and rumbling so hard that it was salt in the wound for people still waiting in line to get in.

Of the announced line-up, Guillermo del Toro's Pacific Rim had plenty of buzz, but had none of the built in audience that properties like The Man of Steel and The Hobbit boaster. But Del Toro didn't disappoint. Pacific Rim is the director's first film since 2008's Hellboy 2. After plenty of unfortunate events, the most public being delays that forced him to bow out of the director's chair for The Hobbit, he's back! And he's brought giant robots, and an amazing cast! Of the cast, Charlie Hunnam, Charlie Day, Rinko Kikuchi, and Ron Perlman were on hand for the panel. They got to participate a little bit, but most of the questions revolved around rocket punches, and the monsters... entertaining nevertheless. Check out the entire panel below, and be sure to check out Ben P's full breakdown of the panel as well.

Synopsis:

When legions of monstrous creatures, known as Kaiju, started rising from the sea, a war began that would take millions of lives and consume humanity’s resources for years on end. To combat the giant Kaiju, a special type of weapon was devised: massive robots, called Jaegers, which are controlled simultaneously by two pilots whose minds are locked in a neural bridge. But even the Jaegers are proving nearly defenseless in the face of the relentless Kaiju. On the verge of defeat, the forces defending mankind have no choice but to turn to two unlikely heroes-a washed up former pilot (Charlie Hunnam) and an untested trainee (Rinko Kikuchi)-who are teamed to drive a legendary but seemingly obsolete Jaeger from the past. Together, they stand as mankind’s last hope against the mounting apocalypse.
