Wiress Cast in THE HUNGER GAMES: CATCHING FIRE

Lionsgate has announced that they've cast Amanda Plummer (The Fisher King, Needful Things and Pulp Fiction)as Wiress in the Francis Lawrence-directed, The Hunger Games: Catching Fire.

The character's eccentricity earns her the nickname "Nuts" from fellow tributes, and though she doesn't communicate traditionally, her observations and contributions prove invaluable in the Quarter Quell. Plummer is a solid choice to take on this role, and here's a little more spoilish detail on the character,

Wiress was a female tribute from District 3. She competed in andwon a previous, unspecified Hunger Games, (possibly the 56 to the 59th), and then participated again in the 75th Hunger Games. In the second set of Games, she was at first rejected by many to be an ally, except for Katniss Everdeen who wanted her as one. She later proved her worth when she revealed to her allies that the arena was shaped and operated like a clock by saying "Tick tock" repetitively until Katniss figured it out. Knowing this, Katniss and the others were able to predict the devastating obstacles the Gamemakers arranged. Wiress showed that she was always one step ahead of the others, but could only be understood by her loyal companion Beetee, and eventually Katniss. She was given the nickname "Nuts" by Johanna over the years since her victory.

The sequel begins as Katniss Everdeen has returned home safe after winning the 74th Annual Hunger Games along with fellow tribute Peeta Mellark. Winning means that they must turn around and leave their family and close friends, embarking on a "Victor's Tour" of the districts. Along the way Katniss senses that a rebellion is simmering, but the Capitol is still very much in control as President Snow prepares the 75th Annual Hunger Games (The Quarter Quell) - a competition that could change Panem forever.

Lionsgate has scheduled The Hunger Games: Catching Fireto be releasedon November 22nd, 2013. Do you think Plummer is a good choice for Wiress?
