David Duchovny Wants More X-FILES Movies and So Do I

Movie by Joey Paur

Look, I understand that X-Files: I Want to Believe wasn't received well by audiences and critics, but that doesn't mean we can't get an awesome X-Files movie in the future. I would love to see another X-Files film happen, hell why not just bring the TV series back?! It'd probably be more successful now than ever. I'm not the only one who'd like to see the adventures of Mulder and Scully continue, franchise star David Duchovny wants it to happen as well!

In a recently interview with Collider, Duchovny talked about how he would love to make another movie, and why he thinks the last movie didn't really do very well at the box office.

That book doesn’t close until somebody dies, really. One of the greatnesses of the show was its open-endedness. It was about possibility. It wasn’t about closure. It just couldn’t be. There is no such thing as that story ever ending. Those characters are forever searching. That’s what they do. Even if we’re not watching them, they’re out there, in some dimension. Mulder and Scully are still doing their thing ‘cause that’s their nature.

I would love to do another film, or more. I think we’re all game for it. I know I’m kind of perplexed that Fox isn’t more [enthusiastic]. Here’s a homegrown property that you don’t have to go buy, like fuckin’ Green Lantern or something, to make it. Here you’ve got an actual action franchise that’s your own.

Hell yeah! That's what I'm sayin'! Take the X-Files franchise and take it to the next level, do something great with it! It's just sitting there doing nothing, but it could be something huge! There's a built in fan base just waiting for it to happen, so someone over there at Fox, please just make it happen! As for why I Want to Believe failed, Duchovny believes that it was because of the budget and the way the studio marketed it.

I think Chris [Carter] is probably working on an idea, so we’ll see. Unfortunately, with the last one, they didn’t spend the money to compete in a summer fashion, and they brought it out in the summer. It should be a summer film. It should be an action film. But, the last one we made was not. The last one we made was a dark, contemplative, small $25 million film. It was basically an independent film. When you come out against Batman, it’s not going to happen.

Damn, it sounds like Duchovny wants a big budget action-packed X-Files film! And why the hell not?! The X-Files universe is epic, and it has everything they need to make for a badass movie. Breaking Bad creator Vince Gilligan was actually a writer on the series, and it would be cool if he and Chris Carter teamed up to develop a new film. Even if that didn't happen, I still want another X-Files movie... how about you?
