John Travolta to Play THE TOXIC AVENGER!?

Movie John Travolta by Joey Paur

This is the most random surprising news you'll probably see today, but apparently John Travolta will be starring in the remake of the grindhouse cult classic The Toxic Avenger. Is his career really that bad that he has to resort to a starring in a movie like this?

The news comes from the industry tracking website It's On The Grid, which publishes inside information taken from major agency tracking grids. So it seems like this is all true, which is so weird! I just don't see it! So maybe it isn't true. I don't know what to believe anymore.

The remake was announced back in 2010, and Hot Tub Time Machine director Steve Pink is set to direct from a script that he co-wrote with Daniel C. Mitchell. Apparently the plan is turn it into a family movie franchise, and it has been described as an environmentally conscious action-comedy. Pink had this to say in a statement,

The Toxic Avenger is exactly what the country--wait, that's not big enough--what the world needs right now.

The Toxic Avenger has had four films, an animated series and a comic book. The superhero is born when a mop boy named Melvin Junko falls into a vat of toxic waste, turning him into a disgusting looking superhero that fights off evil doers.

Charlie Corwin's Original Media is funding the project, but I have no idea if it will ever actually get off the ground, they've been trying to getting it rolling for 2 years. Can you see Travolta as The Toxic Avenger? What do you think about the film getting rebooted?
