Will Johnny Depp Really Make $90 Million for PIRATES 5?!
I have no idea if this is true or not, but it's being reported that Johnny Depp wants $90-95 million dollars to reprise his role as Captain Jack Sparrow in Pirates of the Caribbean 5. That's one hell of a crazy payday if it's true and if Disney agrees to it.
There's two reasons why Depp could be asking for this much money. One reason would be to price himself out of the picture so he doesn't have to make a fifth Pirates film. Producer Jerry Bruckheimer previous revealed that a fifth Pirates script was in the works, but that he would only make it with Depp on board.
The other reason was given by an inside source who told The Sun newspaper via The Age:
[Depp is] being very careful he does not sign on for too many films. This huge deal for Pirates means he will be able to pick his other roles very carefully on the strength of their script rather than their salary.
So the second reason is that it would allow him to make the kind of movies he really wants to make. I personally don't think any actor is worth that much money. Whatever the reason is behind Depp asking for that much money, I don't think Disney should give it to him. I don't really feel the need to see any more Pirates of the Caribbean movies anyway.
Do you think Disney should pay Depp over $90 million dollars?
