METAL GEAR SOLID Movie Officially Announced!

Movie Metal Gear Solid by Joey Paur

So I woke up this morning to the awesome news that a Metal Gear Solid movie was officially announced! This is something I've been waiting to happen for years! The last thing we heard about this movie until today was back in 2010 the movie wasn't really going anywhere. Screenwriter David Hayter (X-Men 1 and 2, Watchmen) turned in a script for the film, but nothing came of it. During a previous interview he said, "I know it better than any screenwriter on the planet. I’ve said every word that Snake has said. So I felt well-qualified."

Apparently Konomi and game creator Hideo Kojima just had issues making a deal to get the movie made, so it never moved forward. They decided not to proceed with it... until today! There's no word on if Hayter is still involved, but here's what he said about the script he wrote:

I did come up with a pitch for the movie which I thought was pretty cool and I would still love to do. But there are far larger issues in terms of who’s going to get the rights to do it and what sort of involvement Mr. Kojima is going to have. All that needs to be worked out before I would ever come up.

I really want to spring some things on people. Having been intimately involved with ‘Metal Gear,’ I would like to give people a story that will grab the fans. The fans will know the context that we’re talking about once they see the trailers. They’ll say ‘Oh my god, they’re going there.’ But they won’t quite know how the story is going to unfold or what some of the big surprises are going to be. And that’s really the only way to keep a movie [adaptation] interesting.

I'd like to see what Hayter's vision was for the film, he sounds really excited about what he came up with. I guess we'll find out soon enough who will end up writing, directing and starring in the long awaited film project.

Here's the full report from our gaming site GameTyrant.co written by JDubeous who got to the news before we did....

We have some great news for all you Metal Gear fans! Sony has officially announced that they are going to bringing the hit game, Metal Gear Solid, to the big screen. Yea, I know, amazing right?!

What makes it even better is that it will be produced by Avi Arad. Now if you do not know who Arad is, well then you should just get out from under that rock already. Most of you know that he was the producer of the original Spider-Man movie franchise. Even with Spider-Man 3 being so bad, I think he's still an awesome choice for this. If there were ever two things that were closely related, it would be comic books and video games. So if he could bring Spidey to life, I have no doubts he can do the same with Snake.

It seems the announcement was made to a crowd of fans at the Metal Gear Solid anniversary event held in Tokyo. Hideo Kojima walked out and confirmed that a movie was indeed in the works, and then brought Arad out to talk to everyone.

Kotaku reported Arad saying:

"For many years I fought to bring comics to theaters."

"Comic books are now biggest genre in cinema," said Arad. "Video games are the comic books of today."

"We will take our time and tell the story with all the nuances, ideology, cautionary tales needed,

I think we should all feel very good to hear these things coming from Arad. You should also not fear because Kojima, the video game's creator, will in fact be an executive producer of the movie as well. So it's safe to say that we will get a very accurate adaptation of the game.

Who do you think they should pick to play Snake?
