Story Behind DOCTOR WHO Being Developed as TV Movie

TVMovie BBCDoctor Who by Joey Paur

To celebrate Doctor Who's 50th anniversary BBC TWO will be developing a TV movie called An Adventure In Space And Time. It will tell the interesting story behind the creation of Doctor Who, which was first broadcast on November 23rd 1963.

Mark Gatiss has been hired to write the 90-minute movie about the making of one of the most iconic sci-fi TV series ever made. Gatiss is quoted as saying:

This is the story of how an unlikely set of brilliant people created a true television original. And how an actor - William Hartnell - stereotyped in hard-man roles became a hero to millions of children. I've wanted to tell this story for more years than I can remember! To make it happen for Doctor Who's 50th birthday is quite simply a dream come true.

Current Doctor Who showrunner, Steven Moffat, will be an executive producer on the project who says,

The story of Doctor Who is the story of television - so it's fitting in the anniversary year that we make our most important journey back in time to see how the TARDIS was launched.

There's no information on casting, when it will go into production, or when it will air. Most of that should be confirmed next year.
