Steven Spielberg's ROBOPOCALYPSE looking to Cast Ben Whishaw

Steven Spielberg is looking to cast Ben Whishaw in a major role for his upcoming sci-fi film Robopocalypse. For those of you not familiar with Whishaw he stars in the upcoming movie Cloud Atlas, and also plays Q in the new James Bond film Skyfall

Anne Hathaway and Chris Hemsworth are also both up for lead roles in Spielberg's new project. There's no confirmation on any of this casting right now, but if Whishaw is cast he will play a hacker named Lurker.

Robopocalypse is scheduled to start shooting next year and will be released on April 25th, 2014. I'm looking forward to this movie, and I really hope Spielberg does something special with it. He's a great director but his last two movies that had sci-fi elements didn't turn out very good. Those films were War of the Worlds and Indiana Jones: Kingdom of the Crystal Skull. The first half of War of the Worlds was great, the second half was a mess.

Are you excited about Spielberg taking on this project, and do you think Whishaw is a good choice to take on a lead role in the movie? The only movie I've seen him in was Perfume: The Story of a Murderer, which was just a crazy twisted movie, but he was good in it!

Here's a description of the story:

In the near future, at a moment no one will notice, all the dazzling technology that runs our world will unite and turn against us. Taking on the persona of a shy human boy, a childlike but massively powerful artificial intelligence known as Archos comes online and assumes control over the global network of machines that regulate everything from transportation to utilities, defense and communication. In the months leading up to this, sporadic glitches are noticed by a handful of unconnected humans – a single mother disconcerted by her daughter’s menacing “smart” toys, a lonely Japanese bachelor who is victimized by his domestic robot companion, an isolated U.S. soldier who witnesses a ‘pacification unit’ go haywire – but most are unaware of the growing rebellion until it is too late.

When the Robot War ignites -- at a moment known later as Zero Hour -- humankind will be both decimated and, possibly, for the first time in history, united. Robopocalypse is a brilliantly conceived action-filled epic, a terrifying story with heart-stopping implications for the real technology all around us…and an entertaining and engaging thriller unlike anything else written in years.
