Neil Marshall Set to Direct Pirate Series BLACK SAILS

The director of The Descent and the HBO series Game of Thrones, Neil Marshall, is locked in to helm the first episode of the new pirate series on Starz called Black Sails. Marshall is a solid director who has made some cool movies in his career, and I think he's a solid choice to take on this new pirate series.

The show is being produced by Michael Bay and it "centers on the tales of Captain Flint and his men, and takes place twenty years prior to Robert Louis Stevenson's classic Treasure Island."

Here's the synopsis:

Flint, the most brilliant and most feared pirate captain of his day, takes on a fast-talking young addition to his crew who goes by the name John Silver. Threatened with extinction on all sides, they fight for the survival of New Providence Island, the most notorious criminal haven of its day – a debauched paradise teeming with pirates, prostitutes, thieves and fortune seekers, a place defined by both its enlightened ideals and its stunning brutality.

Starz ordered up eight episodes of Black Sails without a pilot, and is set to start shooting this year in Cape Town, South Africa. The plan is to release it sometime in 2014. What do you think of Marshall directing the first episode? What's your favorite movie or TV show that he's worked on?
