Joss Whedon Discusses Plans for THE AVENGERS 2 and S.H.I.E.L.D.

We've got another cool update on The Avengers 2 and S.H.I.E.L.D. battlefront. This time it comes straight from the mouth of Joss Whedon who is currently in the process of prepping up to direct the S.H.I.E.L.D. series. In an interview with MTV he reveals that he will be finished with The Avengers 2 script in a few months, and talks about how he will bring the Marvel spectacle to S.H.I.E.L.D. He then goes on to discusses his involvement with the other Marvel films being developed.

When it comes to The Avengers 2 he wants to go deeper not bigger, which is something he's been saying he wanted to do all along.

Don’t go bigger; go deeper. All of these people have met, so you have that out of the way. Now you can spend your time just digging in, and by digging in, I mean with a scalpel, to cause pain.

I'm sure his approach on the story for the sequel is going to turn out great for the fans. He goes on to talk about bringing S.H.I.E.L.D. and Marvel spectacle to the small screen, saying it will be bigger than your average cop show.

[We start filming] a week from Tuesday. You have to bring a bit of spectacle to it. It’s got to be bigger than your average cop show. But at the end of the day, it’s about the peripheral people. It’s about the people on the edges of the grand adventures. The whole point of the show is that even with all these big things, the little things matter. It’s about people who don’t have super powers. There will be some people with powers, there will be FX, and there will be the spectacle of science-fiction storytelling, but all played on a very human, small level. That’s the appeal of the thing.

I'm so excited to see how it turns out. Now he does say that there will be people with powers in the show, so it makes me wonder what Marvel characters we might see brought to life. As for his role as a consultant to Marvel he explains,

I read all the scripts and I give notes on everything. I’ll look at cuts when they’re ready to show me. I’ll talk to directors if they want to. I try to make myself useful without being intrusive. I’ve gotten to be a part of all of them. That’s a dream job for a kid like me.

Whedon has hit it big with Marvel, but what's crazy to think about is that this is just the beginning for the filmmaker! He's got a whole future of movies and TV shows ahead of him, and I can't wait to see what he ends up giving us! You can watch him talk about the Marvel projects below...
