Peter Farrelly Talks About DUMB AND DUMBER TO

Movie Dumb and Dumber by Joey Paur

Dumb & Dumber is one of my favorite Jim Carrey movies, and one of the funniest movies I grew up with. I would laugh so ridiculously hard while watching this film. It was just so insanely stupid I couldn't help but enjoy the hell out of it. The film helped launch the career of directors Peter and Bobby Farrelly, unfortunately they haven't made anything as funny since.

It's previously been reported that Carrey and Jeff Daniels would be back to reprise their roles as Lloyd Christmas and Harry Dunne in the sequel, and that it would be called Dumb & Dumber To. In a recent interview with Comingsoon Peter Farrelly talks about how the sequel ended up coming together, and where it currently stands in the production process.

If we were going to do a sequel it was always going to be 'Dumb and Dumber,' There were no other movies we've made that are real sequel type movies--maybe 'The Three Stooges.' We always said that it would be fun to do another one just because it was such a fun experience and we kind of left them off where they started in that movie so it is the kind of thing you could do a couple of them. But over the years, Jim didn't want to do another one, until recently, about a year ago or so, he called us up and he was in a hotel watching TV and 'Dumb & Dumber' came on and he sat there howling and said, 'We gotta do another one!' and I said, 'That's awesome, let's do it.'

I'm sure Carrey is willing to jump on board now because his career kind of needs a boost, and a Dumb and Dumber sequel could reinvigorate it. Farrelly went on to say that they have a script that they're happy with, but doesn't really give any story details. He says it's really just all about the characters...

We have the script and I will say this: I love the script but if I told you about the script, you'd be completely impressed, but if I told you about the first one--'Well, what's it about?' 'It's about these two guys that find this briefcase and they follow this girl to Aspen.' You'd say, 'Well, where's the movie?' It's not about the plot, it's about the characters. It's a really hard movie to explain to people and make them see it, but I guarantee you that it's sort of exactly like the first one. We pick up from that 20 years later, we explain what they've done for the last 17 or 18 years, we take off from that and it's just a lot of laughs. It's at Warner Bros. and right now it's being financed outside the studio, but it will be released by Warner Bros.--knock on wood--and that's all being worked out right now.

If you liked 'Dumb & Dumber,' you'll like this because it's the same and more. It's really fun.

As a fan of the first movie I'm really excited to see what they have planned for the sequel. It's going to be fun seeing these two characters back up on the big screen together 17 years later. It was previously revealed that the plot will follow Harry and Lloyd 20 years later as they try to track down one of their children. This could have changed, but that's all we have to go off of right now. This is what Bobby Farrelly had to say about the movie in a previous interview,

I can tell you that there is no growth out of either one of them and it's 20 years later... these guys are in regular life and they're still basically children at heart. The story revolves around the fact that one of them may have sired a child. They want to go and find the child because he's having a kidney problem and he wants to ask him for one of his kidneys.

All we can hope for is that it will be just as funny and entertaining as they say it will be. Are you excited to see these chracters up on the big screen?
