BATES MOTEL Will Premiere in March and Creators Discuss the Show

TV Bates Motel by Joey Paur

A&E has announced that their new Psycho contemporary prequel series Bates Motel will premiere on March 18th at 10pm. The incredible looking new psychological thriller series comes from Carlton Cuse (LOST) and Kerry Ehrin (Friday Night Lights). Cuse recently explained that the show won't pay homage to the classic movie Psycho. Here's what Deadline reported from the TCA Panel,

"We don’t really view any of that as canon,” Cuse said. He called a desire to avoid “homage” a reason for why the story has a contemporary setting, rather than being set in the’ 60s. He added that the story of how young Bates becomes a murderous adult “will not be what you expect it to be.” (He did confirm that the story would be serialized but “have a beginning, middle and end” and will not focus on a single individual mystery or story point)."

Violence against children was then brought up, and the question was asked if it was a bad time to make a show about a disturbed young man who eventually turns violent. To that Ehrin said,

"I think the only thing anyone thought about that was that it was horrible and sad. This show is not about violence, it’s about a mother and son.” She said that the story is trying to “explain” violence rather than promote it.

The series looks like it's going to be great and I'm excited to watch it. I especially like the cast that they got for the series which includes, Freddie Highmore as a young Norman Bates and Vera Farmiga as his mother Norma Bates, as well as Nicola Peltz, Nestor Carbonell, Mike Vogel, Olivia Cooke, and Max Thieriot.

Bates Motel, serves as a contemporary prequel to the genre-defining film, “Pyscho,” and promises to give viewers an intimate portrayal of how Norman Bates’ psyche unravels through his teenage years.

Fans will have access to the dark, twisted backstory and learn first hand just how deeply intricate his relationship with his mother, Norma, truly is and how she helped forge the most famous serial killer of them all.

Here's the promo trailer for the show! Are you looking forward to it?
