Looks Like Guillermo del Toro's PINOCCHIO is Dead... For Now

I was really looking forward to seeing Guillermo del Toro's vision of Pinocchio, but it doesn't look like it's going to happen. He was previously developing the stop-motion animated film with The Jim Henson Co., and he would have co-directed it with Fantastic Mr. Fox animation-director Mark Gustafson, from a script written by Gris Grimly and Matthew RobinsTom Waits was also going to provide the voice of Gepetto, which would have been great!

Well, Grimly posted the following update on his Twitter account...

Short to the point update on Pinocchio for those inquiring: It appears that this is not the right time for such a superior-adventurous flick

Apparently the reason behind the movie not happening anymore is due to the box office returns of Tim Burton's Frankenweenie...

@thinkbaker There are people like us out there. But they look at numbers. Frankenweenie was a box office failure to them.

This is some pretty disappointing news, but what can you do? Hopefully one day it happens, but it doesn't sound like it will be anytime soon. Grimly does add though that he's been working with a studio to adapt Little Jordan Ray's Muddy Spud, which is another one of his books.
