EVIL DEAD Remake Movie Review Round-Up!

Movie Evil Dead by Joey Paur

Oh how I wish I was up at SXSW! I've been really pumped up for the Fede Alvarez-directed remake of Evil Dead! Looks like the movie is going to deliver the awesomeness, especially for horror fans. Here's a round-up of reviews from around the web giving their thoughts on the film. After reading through these I'm excited as hell to see the movie for myself!

ShockTillYouDrop - "Evil Dead is slickly put together, but it is also vapid and vacuous. It wants to be an entertaining film because that's its job, but it's only willing to try so hard at it. For horror fans, that's probably enough.  There is gore aplenty and over the top violence.

/Film - "Evil Dead veers between being a tweaked but faithful remake of elements of Raimi’s first two movies — like a greatest hits record that is also a collection of covers — and its own original film."

Film School Rejects- "Evil Dead is a better film than was probably expected, but as good as the effects and bloodwork are here — and they are jaw-droppingly fantastic — they don’t make up for the film’s incredibly shoddy and flaccid script. Still, horror fans should support it if only to encourage the genre’s return to a harder tone and more practical effects. And because I really want to see a sequel."

Variety - "Ultimately, the new “Evil Dead” will rely heavily on existing fans of this unlikely franchise to make a killing in theatrical and homevid release. Those who get the inside jokes should be easy to spot: They’ll be the ones laughing when the full-bore carnage erupts most furiously onscreen."

Cinema Blend - "With titles like 2010’s The Nightmare on Elm Street, 2003’s Texas Chainsaw Massacre and 2009’s Friday The 13th is totally understandable that horror fans would be nervous about an Evil Dead remake, but you can put those fears to rest. With unrelenting gore, an awesome cast, and authentic respect for the original, Alvarez’s film is a straight up bloody good time at the movies."

FearNet - "Simply put, Evil Dead is stark, dark, exciting, and thoroughly grim -- and that's more than good enough.  That a remake of the "original" cabin in the woods movie works so damn well even after Cabin in the Woods lampooned the concept so thoroughly, well, that's sort of impressive in a highly geeky way."

IGN - "The result is a perfect marriage of old and new, with Fede Alvarez staying true to the essence of the original while at the same time updating it with new ideas, stories and characters that serve to make the Evil Dead mythology that much richer."

The movie stars Jane LevyShiloh FernandezLou Taylor Pucci, Jessica Lucas, and Elizabeth Blackmore. In the remake of the 1981 cult-hit horror film, five twenty-something friends become holed up in a remote cabin.
