This Video on Space Spills Killed My Astronaut Dreams
Many times I've fantasized about how awesome it would be to be an astronaut in space. That all ended when I saw this video. In all honesty it wasn't the core message of the video itself that had me sketched out--as all it contains is a Canadian astronaut answering a simple question about how to clean up spills in a space ship. "Pretty cool!" I thought as I initially started the video and watched as a mustached man of the moon proceeded to talk into a floating microphone and explain the process.
Then the water came out, and I'm like "Whoa!" First off I don't care if it's a demonstration, there's electrical equipment around! I would hate to be doing a demo on some nuance via webcam only to have my glob of water crash into a motherboard and leave me stranded for life! Then he's like "We recycle the paper after retrieving the water so we don't lose the water..." and I'm like "Oh that's nuts, I didn't even think about how they pretty much have the water they go up with..." and then it hit me. "THEY DRINK THEIR OWN P*** AND S*** WATER!" I exclaimed at the screen as astronaut Chris Hadfield smirked on at the camera like he just knew that's what I was thinking. Basically my space dream is dead, it probably won't have the same effect on you...but see if you don't think about it now while watching.
